Pyromorphite
A bright lustrous cluster of yellow green pyromorphite crystals from the Horcajo Lead Mines, Spain, offered with its antique handwritten label dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The specimen displays attractive, glassy crystals with rich color on matrix, characteristic of this classic Spanish locality; however, some damage is present, consistent with the age of the piece and its early period of collection. The Horcajo mines, located in Ciudad Real, Castilla La Mancha, were worked extensively during the 18th and 19th centuries for lead ores and are renowned for producing collectible secondary minerals such as pyromorphite, cerussite, and mimetite. Pyromorphite from Horcajo was highly sought after by early European collectors for its distinctive yellow green tones and strong luster, and specimens retaining original antique labels represent tangible survivors from the golden age of mineral collecting.
