Calcite

Unknown Owner
Exceptional calcite specimen featuring large, glassy, gemmy amber colored scalenohedral crystals to 7.0 cm attractively perched on a fossilized coral matrix, offering both visual impact and geological interest. The crystals display excellent luster, rich color, and sharp terminations, and the piece is in super condition overall. Collected by Dave Rush, this specimen comes with its original collection data card, visible at the end of the video, adding solid provenance. It originates from the Berry Materials Quarry, near North Vernon in Jennings County, Indiana, a classic Midwestern limestone locality known for producing fine calcite from Mississippian age marine sediments. Mineralization occurred when calcium rich fluids moved through fossil rich limestone, depositing calcite in open cavities, occasionally yielding large, amber toned crystals on coral hosts, examples that have become increasingly scarce and highly desirable among collectors.
