Olivenite
Unknown Owner
This specimen features lustrous deep green microcrystals of olivenite richly coating the matrix, presenting a dense and visually striking display of this rare secondary copper mineral. Preserved in good condition, the piece comes with an antique label, as shown at the end of the video, dating it to the early 20th century or possibly the late 19th century, adding historical provenance. The Grand Central Mine in the Tintic Mining District of Utah was one of the region's prominent silver and copper producers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Known for its complex veins rich in copper, silver, and associated secondary minerals, the mine has long been a source of collectible specimens, particularly rare copper arsenates like olivenite. This piece combines aesthetic charm, historical significance, and mineralogical interest, making it a distinguished addition to any classic American mineral collection.
