Epidote with Actinolite, Calcite
A striking and unusual specimen, featuring lustrous green epidote crystals up to 4.0 cm in size elegantly perched atop a grouping of large rhombohedral calcite crystals, with minor actinolite accenting the composition. The combination of well formed epidote on calcite is unusual, making this a distinctive and highly aesthetic example. The piece is in very good condition and comes with an antique label, as shown at the end of the video, dating it to the early 20th century, adding provenance and historical significance. Knappenwand, in the Hockkonig massif of Salzburg, Austria, has been celebrated for its classic alpine mineral specimens, particularly epidote, calcite, and associated amphiboles, since the 19th century. The locality is renowned for producing sharp, lustrous crystals in dramatic associations, making it a cornerstone for collectors of historic European alpine minerals. This specimen combines rarity, aesthetic appeal, and historical importance in one exceptional example.
