When it was discovered in the earliest years of the 19th century, the Cuprite at Wheal Gorland in Cornwall represented the best of species and was reported upon by William Phillips in the Transactions of the Geological Society in 1811. The richly crystallized aggregates dispersed through fragments of Quartz veinstone presented what at the time were unusually large octahedral crystals. This very rich small cabinet sized specimen features some excellent, and quite large (up to 5 mm across) Cuprite crystals with minor hackly Native Copper in association. There is some damage to some of the Cuprite crystals but equally many that are perfect. A classic from Wheal Gorland.
