Vanadinite (arsenic-rich) and calcite, 4.2 cm, from the Macy mine, Hillsboro District, Sierra County, New Mexico; collected with Jerry Simmons. After a few hours of digging, I broke into a fist sized pocket that contained this prize. After showing this specimen to other experienced NM field collectors, the conclusion was reached that this was the best “endlichite” ever seen from the mine. Only a handful that are already familiar with the locality have guessed correctly. How many people have seen gemmy yellow vanadinite before? Philip Simmons collection; Jeff Scovil photo.
