Calcite on smithsonite, 5.9 cm, from the Kelly mine, Magdalena District, Socorro County, New Mexico; collected with Jerry Simmons. My dad and I found this while we were digging in an old water well in the old town of Los Cerrillos. We were searching for historical artifacts and were shocked to see this on our screen at a depth of 40 feet. That makes it a historic specimen as well as an aesthetic one! Philip and Jerry Simmons collection; Philip Simmons and Erin Delventhal photo.
