The matted hair-like variety of Cuprite known as Chalcotrichite is well known from Cornwall, but specimens tended to come from just a small number of mines of which Wheal Phoenix at Linkinhorne was one of the most famous. This rich large thumbnail-sized specimen is a piece of iron oxide-rich gossan which is impregnated with extensive coverage of matted blood-red Chalcotrichite. Ex Malcolm Southwood Collection.
