An elegant specimen of very bright gold that is a nugget in terms of how it was found, in nugget placers - and yet it was a crystallized gold some hundred million years previously; and still shows tortured crystal forms within the smooth nugget. It has, as you can see, a "tortured," elongated crystal curving up and out from the main nugget mass. The piece has a beautiful slightly copper or brassy patina, a little darker than normal Aussie nuggets from the more common Victoria localities. Recognizable among others, when you see them side by side. This is a full miniature, large for size, and with a nice sculptural aesthetic. Complete 360. Long in the collection of Marshall Sussman, acquired 2005-2015 or so. This hefty gold nugget, weighing in at 61.9 grams (nearly 2 troy ounces), is a crystallized nugget of a sort rarely seen in good, aesthetic specimens.
