A solid "pancake style" gold nugget from the famous goldfields in Papua New Guinea. Large nuggets that were not melted down are scarce. This came from Robert Sielecki, who made many trips directly to PNG in the 1980s and early 1990s and accumulated a significant gold collection. It was purchased in PNG. It is most likely from Morobe Province, a historic goldfield with significant past production and ongoing exploration. It is not from the site of most specimen PNG gold, the Mount Kare Mine in Enga Province. It is a lot of surface area for display relative to the weight, because it is a flat nugget; and it has gorgeous color and shine. 171.8 grams.
