The complexity of this Calcite from Tsumeb mine is remarkable. Several generations of Calcite have developed, one after the other, to produce a stunning large display specimen. The first phase of Calcite are the largest crystals (to around 6 cm in length), forming sharp, bladed, fin-like shallow rhombic crystals included with dark-coloured Mottramite. Second generation of similar crystals, but without inclusions sits on top of these. A final phase of smaller sharp, pointed crystals are clustered upon the earlier bladed crystals, but concentrated in smaller areas. For its size (15 cm in length) this piece is in truly exceptional condition. It would not only make a superb display for Calcite, but also for a Tsumeb-themed display, and has the additional talking points of how the different generations of Calcite developed. Ex Hettrich Collection.
