The colour of this Mimetite from Tsumeb mine is really distinctive and certainly catches ones attention. Essentially colour zoned, the crystals - which are actually sheaf-like bundles, or bunches, of parallel acicular, to prismatic crystals - begin with a more typical Tsumeb straw-yellow, but transition along their length into an intense burnt orange colour. These crystals are grown upon a dark coloured iron-rich gossan matrix which provides a nice contrasting backdrop. The Mimetite crystals extend around the sides of the specimen which makes it a little difficult to display easily, but if you are a Mimetite fan and are looking for a specimen which is a little different, then this could well be it. From the generations-old Weyand Collection in Tsumeb town.
