This older, well-crystallized Native Copper specimen from David Hardman's Collection (no. 1092) is simply labelled as Coahuila - a state in north-eastern Mexico. Despite its rather vague provenance it is extremely fine: made up of almost entirely crystals of Native Copper with a tarnish varying from dull to brighter metallic. Forming a rather porous, spongey aggregate one might expect it to feel quite lightweight, but being metallic copper its density is instantly apparent and with its open texture the Native Copper crystals have grown largely uninterrupted into the cavities. Despite its lack of precise locality details this is a very richly crystallized Mexican Native Copper and a specialist might well be able to pin its provenance down based on the previous owner starting to collect Native Copper specimens during the 1960s.
