Tucson, Arizona, USAThe crystallized Native Sulphur specimens from Agrigento Province in Sicily, Italy are second to none. With a gorgeous lemon yellow colour, fine translucency and a waxy lustre, well-formed Native Sulphur crystals are beautiful treasure of the natural world. This small cabinet specimen is liberally encrusted with really nicely formed 'twisted' truncated bipyramidal crystals, the largest of which reaches 2 cm in length. Fitting within the orthorhombic crystal class, the 'twisting' shows why these are not truely bipyramidal in form. Sitting naturally in an upright pose, a Calcite encrusted matrix is studded with some very showy Native Sulphur crystals. There is some damage to a few of the crystals and a couple of gaps where others have been complete broken off, but there are also many really excellent examples of Native Sulphur crystals displaying their wonderful natural form and colour. Overall, this forms a quite attractive display of this Italian classic.
