NATIVE Gold in Quartz
This very rich Native Gold specimen comes from the 10th level (1350 ft), Main Ore Zone, Siscoe Gold mine, Quebec, Canada. Famous in Canadian gold mining history, Siscoe mine is recorded as having operated from 1923 to 1949 during which time it produced 27.4 tons of gold. This incredibly rich specimen clearly comes from what would be termed a 'bonanza' style gold deposit. The quantity of Native Gold visible is impressive as is its extremely bright golden yellow colour. Hosted by massive white vein Quartz the Native Gold can be seen to fill the fractured interstices between tectonically fractured grains of Quartz, along sutured surfaces. The whole specimen weighs 106 g of which the Native Gold must make up a significant percentage. Ex Martin Kershaw Collection, no. 609.
