SIDERITE on QUARTZ
Siderite from Neudorf is once of the best known classic minerals from Germany. Sometimes associated with cubo-octahedral Galena crystals too, this superb cabinet-sized display specimen is a simple Quartz-Siderite combo. The white Quartz forms a thin flat plate of small crystals upon which many excellent, classy, fudge, to darker beige-brown rhombic crystals of Siderite sit. These reach to 1.2 cm on edge and display the finest resinous, to 'wet' lustre for which this locality is renowned. These crystals are nicely dispersed in small groups around the surface with gaps allowing the contrast with the white Quartz to be enjoyed. On the whole the Siderite crystals are in excellent condition with just a few of the crystals around the edges showing minor damage. Ex Martin Kershaw Collection, no. 634.
