Renowned for world-class Dolomite crystals, and twinned crystals, the Magnesite quarries at Eugui, Esteríbar, Navarre, Spain have been in operation for many decades. Situated near to the border with France at the far western end of the Pyrenees mountains, the Dolomite crystals found there can been extremely large (up to 10 cm in length), but it is the optically transparent colourless crystals, and particularly those that are twinned that are the most desirable to collectors. This stunning miniature specimen is a complex marvel of crystallization. It is a twin, but both parts are not standard rhombic crystals. Indeed, the smaller twinned crystal looks as thought it could be twin in itself! Optically clear, these crystals do show some minor edge chipping, but this is a remarkable piece, with fascinating form.
