This is a highly unusual color for Arkansas wavellite, found in this quality only once (about 2013, if I recall). We have a sparkling display plate of broad, elongate vug in novaculite matrix is almost completely lined with shiny, translucent, blue-green, botryoidal wavellite on this cabinet specimen originating from the Blue Pocket at the Avant Mine in Arkansas. The color and translucence of the wavellite on this cabinet piece is atypical from most of the production from this area. The elongate, recessed area on the top and a vug on the side of the piece showcase bubbly textured wavellite botryoids that are somewhat interconnected and all of them display a smooth, lustrous surface and they have an amazing diaphaneity that makes the green-blue color just glow! Individual botryoids are between 0.5 and 1 cm across and the off-white to tan novaculite provides dramatic color contrast. An excellent and classy piece from the Blue Pocket.
