This is a true USA classic from 1960s finds by Norm Dawson at his own mine, the famous White Queen in the Pala district of Southern California; and a rare display specimen in cabinet size! The color is amazing with a little light on it, more peachy-pink than Afghanistan morganties of today's marketplace, and generally distinct to the eye for the color and the slight etching. This mine has long been the source of the most famous and finest morganite crystals in North America and these specimens are scarce today in any quality! This is a very good cabinet specimen from this notoriously stingy pegmatite deposit that gave up very few really good combination pieces like this one. The crystal is nearly complete with more than two-thirds of the crystal intact and emplaced on snow-white albite var. cleavelandite and has no repairs nor restorations. The hexagonal crystal is gemmy to translucent with a lovely peachy pink color and you can look right through much of the morganite, completely. The gem crystal sits perfectly atop a bed of white cleavelandite and measures 6 x 5 x 4 cm of SOLID gem morganite with hot peachy-pink color. There are remnants of a couple, small incomplete morganite crystals on the piece along with a vein of translucent quartz on one side. A very attractive and sizable matrix morganite from the White Queen Mine. Bill Larson acquired this from Norm Dawson in the 1970s; and we later acquired it in the 2015 purchase of a significant group of Bill's historic San Diego Collection (perhaps the largest put together in modern times).
