Neptunite is a rare titanium-bearing silicate mineral that only forms as significant and superb crystals at the California State Gem Mine and only as insignificant crystals in a few other world localities. This California locality has given us large and superb, jet black crystals like on this gorgeous miniature. This handsome piece hosts several larger and a few smaller, razor sharp, glossy black crystals on a starkly contrasting, snow-white natrolite matrix. The larger, attractive crystals from xx to xx cm, proudly stand near vertical off the natrolite matrix and the smaller crystals that are just as sharp and reach 2.7 cm. The dramatic contrast between the exceptional prismatic neptunites and the white natrolite create the best aesthetics possible in a miniature. Minor green serpentinite matrix shows through in places on the front and dominates the back of the piece. Neptunites from here really are the best-of-species. An old specimen.
