Cassiterite

Unknown Owner
This lovely historic Cornish Cassiterite specimen comes from the famous collection of Col. Sir William Serjeant (1857-1930) who lived at St. Benet's Abbey, Lanivet, and whose octagonal blue-rimmed handwritten labels are a must for collectors of historic collection pieces. This one comes from Bunny mine at Stenalees in the St Austell District and Serjeant's original label is still in wonderful condition. Before his death, Serjeant sold his mineral collection to Plymouth Museum but during the 1970s many of his specimens were exchanged by the museum with mineral dealers who then sold them on, or kept them in their own private collections. They are now extremely collectible items, for their beautiful labels and their historic pedigree. Ex Bruce Grant Collection, no. 1486.
