Azurite and Malachite (freeform carving)$3,500.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
This polished lapidary art specimen shows off the highest caliber of intense blue azurite, mixed with swirls of malachite, from Wayne Thompson's 1980s work at the massive Morenci Open Pit. In a unique project, he was allowed to collect as they could, and processed specimens but also material that would have been destroyed otherwise as rough ore, for carving value. Few such large pieces ever come up to market anymore. This is a freeform sculpture that looks like a gold nugget coated in blue paint! Polished expertly by master lapidary Bud Standley, who specializes in working with copper minerals. A native of Arizona, lapidary artist Bud Standley grew up near the copper mines. He learned to carve gemstones in 1971, at age 19; and did all the work for the Larson family when they obtained the antique Ben Williams Bisbee collection; and for Wayne Thompson with Morenci azurite. Larson family personal collection. 196 grams.
