This large and sharp fluorite is, first of all, a gemmy translucent fluorite of huge size for the famous Yaogangxian Mine, and it is twinned so nicely. It is a large, gorgeous, teal-blue, transparent and subtly intricate fluorite cluster consisting of two complex intergrown and twinned crystals, with a 3D shape and a bluish color that simply is hard to convey in photos. We almost never see crystals so large, with a dramatic interpenetration twin! The cube faces are smooth and glassy with only very subtle growth features present, however, the octahedral faces are textured with tiny, 1-3 mm geometric, stepped patterns, with the overall appearance of the piece having contrasting textured faces resulting in an artistic appearance that only nature could produce. In fact, the more you look, the more detail you see; and it can be displayed from really any angle or orientation as well. The edges of the twin components are more transparent the the centers of the crystal. The piece is in excellent condition with only a surface contact on the back where it came off the pocket wall. An attractive and intriguing large fluorite twin from Yaogangxian! We saw twins like this back in the early 2000s, and while it is possible that it is more recent, I doubt it. Obtained from the fluorite collection of French dealer Alain Martaud; and I intended for years to keep it for my own Chinese mineral collection.
