Renowned for its diverse assemblage of secondary mineral species as microcrystals and for some wonderfully complex and colourful Fluorite crystal forms the famous Clara mine in the Black Forest, Baden-Württemberg, Germany has also furnished collectors with some strikingly unusual forms of Baryte crystals. This cabinet-sized display specimen is an excellent example of this, presenting a group of bizarre wedge-shaped crystals, tabular in form, but with curved edges alligned parallel to each other. When stood upright, these crystals give the impression of a city skyline, or perhaps a row of steeples. The Baryte is cream coloured and translucent to opaque. It is not gemmy, but it is its crystal form that stands out here. Minor icy-blue Fluorite is seen in association. There is very slight chipping to the tip of one of the Baryte crystals, but the overall aesthetics remain excellent. Ex Hettrich Collection.
