Tucson, Arizona, USAAway from all the attention of the Bad Ems District for German Pyromorphite, the Jeanette mine at Usingen, Hochtaunuskreis, Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany sits as an unassuming classic occurrence. An historic lead mine, the workings ceased in 1894, but not before it had produced many wonderful, and quite distinctive Pyromorphite specimens. This rich, dense, crystallized small cabinet specimen shows the famous pale lime-green colour Pyromorphite for which Jeanette mine is best known, and with its rounded, almost barrel-shaped form but with an overgrowth of smaller aligned acicular crystals. There is a little damage from where the aggregate of crystallized Pyromorphite was split open, but compared to most specimens from this historic locality this is very rich indeed, and the Pyromorphite presents an excellent 'wet' resinous lustre. It is from the superb systematic collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021) and is a true old-timer, rather than a more recently collected specimen. Ex University of Greifswald Geological Institute with one very old accompanying label.
