Tucson, Arizona, USAFor the silver-collecting connoisseur, comes this absolute treasure of a specimen from Bolivia. Containing the rare species Polybasite and Dyscrasite, it is Pyrargyrite that dominates this extremely well-crystallized substantial miniature-sized specimen. It comes from the extremely remote town of Colquechaca in Chayanta Province within Potosí Department. Founded in colonial Spanish times, silver mining continues today, but some of the older settlements are now ghost towns. This historic piece is accompanied by an old handwritten German label, likely dating to the late 19th century, which documents it nicely to the specific mine - Gallofa. This same label mentions the name "Gmehling". Any silver sulphosalt specimen from Colquechaca is rare - they are just never seen for sale - but this one especially so for its larger size, and the quality of its sturdy Pyrargyrite crystals.
