Moctezuma mine in the Mun. de Moctezuma, Sonora, Mexico is renowned for its wealth of tellurium-bearing minerals, most of which are secondary oxidation products. Indeed, it is Type Locality to 20 mineral species, 19 of which contain tellurium in their structure. Tellurite, tellurium oxide, is not one of those Type Locality species, but the mine is well-known for having produced some of the finest crystals known. This large thumbnail specimen features a rich, 1.2 cm wide, area of crystallized waxy orange Tellurite in Quartz with individual bladed crystals reaching 2 mm in length.
