This is a rather juicy-looking Brazilian Elbaite tourmaline. Mulicoloured, with a perfect three-sided pyramidal termination and an impressive 8.1 cm tall, this individual crystal from the gem pegmatites at Agua Branca, near Coronel Murta in the Jequitinhonha Valley, Minas Gerais state is an absolute cracker. Associated with the Elbaite, but only seen in the video, is a greyish-white Fluorapatite crystal attached near to the base. The colour bands go from extremely dark green at its base upwards through bottle-green to greyish, olive-green, pale greyish-green and with a lovely raspberry pink termination. With great translucency and sparkling internal reflections this crystal responds stunningly to directional lighting. There are no reported repairs, but a horizontal line one-third of the way up the crystal looks like it may have had a very neatly done repair. There is though, no doubting the overall quality of this crystal.
