This colourful 12.4 cm tall individual Elbaite tourmaline crystal is quite a rarity. It comes from Usakos in the Karibib District, Erongo Region, Namibia. This pegmatite-rich area is renowned for superb Beryl var. Aquamarine and Schorl tourmaline crystals (Erongo Mountains) but fine Elbaite crystals are rare. This sizable crystal responds well to backlighting, with an intense electric blue Indicolite base grading upwards into an emerald-green to bottle-green tip. Its termination is unusual, non-standard in form, with rough etched steep-side faces.
