This is a rare specimen of so-called "blue cerussite" from Tsumeb, actually a teal blue-green color. The undoubted star of this large combination of species in a thumbnail sized specimen are the clusters of glassy and GEMMY smithsonite rhombs near the top of the piece, alongside the cerussite's crystal faces. Up to 5 mm on edge, these smithsonite gems have an unbelievably bright and vivid aqua-blue color that is akin the the famous Kelly Mine blues. Whether colored by copper or aurichalcite, blue smithsonite at Tsumeb is one of the rarest, and most sought-after, colors. Add in the blue-green rosasite and a layer of fine, white dolomite, and we have an interesting and aesthetic specimen. The smithsonite brings a level of subtle pizzazz until you light it up, and then wow. A single large cerussite crystal, mostly contacted on the back but with some well-formed faces exposed, serves as the gemmy base for an interesting and attractive combination of Tsumeb minerals. A rare style from a single 1980s find. Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher - 42096
