This unusually short (1.7 cm) doubly-terminated Elbaite tourmaline crystal from Coronel Murta in Minas Gerais state, Brazil presents an excellent intense pink-red colour, with zonation from deep strawberry red at its pyramidal termination and raspberry pink at the flat pinacoid termination. Its surfaces are extremely glassy and although it has inclusions it is internally transparent to translucent meaning that its colour is much enhanced by backlighting. It is nicely terminated at both ends, but its pyramidal termination shows domination by one face with a notable natural 'hole' etched down into it. Its pinacoid termination is good, with minor chipping seen on one edge, and a slightly larger chip is seen on one prism side. Nevertheless, this is a very nice, and colourful 'floater' Elbaite tourmaline crystal.
