Barite (1617)
An extremely rare and very choice locality example for the species, lustrous crystals of barite measuring to 0.6 cm in size coming off matrix. In great condition. The specimen was originally in the collection at the Philadelphia Academy of Sciences and comes with two labels showing this. Based on the name of the mine provided on the old label, the specimen would have to predate 1853. It was in that year that the mine was sold to another company and the name changed. The specimen is also said to be ex Samuel Ashmead collection. Mr Ashmead died in 1864. A printout detailing the history of this locality will also be provided with the specimen as seen at the end of the video.
