This spectacular specimen features bright orange spessartine garnets on well-formed, dark gray-brown smoky quartz crystals. The spessartine-smoky quartz combo specimens from this locality have established a new worldwide standard for aesthetics in garnet specimens. The first specimens of Chinese spessartine garnets associated with smoky quartz and feldspar appeared on the market in 1998. Specimen collecting at this locality has been prohibited by government officials for several years now, and the worldwide availability of these incredible Chinese spessartine/smoky quartz specimens has declined dramatically.
