A gorgeous OLD TIME specimen of manganite from the type locality, the village of Ilfeld in Thuringia, Germany. These German classics are regarded as the best manganites in the world, and the original finds (from which this piece came from) in the late 1880s are still essentially unrivaled in terms of quality and aesthetics. This piece is in fantastic condition for being nearly 140 years old. On the back, is an old label from the collection of V. Janson dated 1899.
