Dioptase on Calcite with Duftite
Unknown Owner
This very pretty Dioptase specimen is from the world's most famous occurrence - Tsumeb mine. Featuring extremely glassy emerald-green Dioptase crystals, the largest of these reaches 1.1 cm in length, but the display surface is well-covered in crystals, most over 5 mm in size. White Calcite forms the backdrop, providing the finest sort of contrast and making the Dioptase crystals excel. With intense lighting the Dioptase crystals really liven up, much more so than most other Dioptase, triggered by subtle internal reflections within these extremely gemmy crystals. A few small patches of powdery yellow-green Duftite can be seen on the Calcite, but it is the Dioptase that is the main feature here. Despite technically being a miniature specimen, its brightness makes it feel much larger and eminently displayable. Ex Weyand collection.
