This wonderful Tsumeb Azurite has the most exquisite colour, caused by unusually bright internal reflections just beneath the surface. At
5.5 cm in length this showy crystal presents great overall form with just minor chipping around its edges and natural 'holes' where green Malachite has replaced some of its internal parts as a partial pseudomorph. Its front facing faces are extremely glossy and display natural vertical growth lines, but it is its vivid flashes of blue that really catch the eye. The top of the crystals is well-terminated but part of the termination is developed into a cluster of small white Quartz crystals. The base of the Azurite crystal is a broken surface, but this looks to be very near to the natural base of a crystal this size and is internally completely replaced by Malachite which extends upwards alongside the back of the bladed Azurite crystal as a stalactitic mass. This sequence of growth is quite unusual to that which is normally seen at Tsumeb. Ex Weyand collection.
