Tucson, Arizona, USAThere are few places on Earth that can rival Tsumeb mine for its crystallized Cerussite specimens. This very large multiple-twinned Cerussite crystal (6 x 6.2 cm across the twin) is not perfect in terms of its lustre and overall shape, but is still a remarkable Cerussite when compared with most other world Cerussite and is enhanced by being on matrix which is rarer. Forming a slightly offset cross-shape the slightly waxy-looking cream-coloured Cerussite crystals show very fine twinning and nice natural striated surface textures caused during crystal growth. The lustre might possibly be a result of natural water-worn surfaces which are occasionally seen on Tsumeb Cerussite specimens but it adds a certain character to this piece. All edges of the twin are undamaged, just with natural undulations. The 'matrix' seen at the bottom of the specimen is actually also Cerussite, just with intense inclusions showing at the surface. On the back, this area forms a natural extension of the twinned crystals. Ex Weyand collection.
