Tucson, Arizona, USAWell, this is certainly an unusual Malachite specimen for Tsumeb mine. Miniature in size, the Malachite forms very smooth spherical masses upon a thin piece of white to cream coloured matrix. If one looks really carefully with strong magnification, it can be seen that there are several tiny glassy colourless Calcite crystals on the surface of the Malachite. Internally, from the side of the specimen, the Malachite can be seen to have a radiating fibrous form but so compact that it creates its smooth satiny outer surface rather than a rough crystallized one. This really unusual form of Malachite for Tsumeb has a somewhat artistic sculptural form and is quite alluring. Ex Weyand collection.
