Chalcophyllite
Chalcophyllite is one of the four great copper arsenate specimens for which Wheal Gorland in Cornwall is famed. For obvious reasons it was first described as hexahedral copper arsenate, but has since been shown to be a hydrated copper aluminium arsenate sulphate hydroxide. This rich miniature specimen from Malcolm Southwood's collection and prior to that the Cowan collection presents exceptionally fresh and bright hexagonal plates of translucent emerald-green Chalcophyllite, to 4 mm across. These crystals richly line a long cavity within Chalcopyrite-bearing vein material. There is a little damage to the edges of a few crystals, but they are just so bright and display the most amazing rich colour for Chalcophyllite.
