Cerussite

Unknown Owner
This very large miniature sized Cerussite specimen is a classic 'snowflake' twin, or what is known as a cyclic twin (where twinning is repeated). The world's best examples of this Cerussite crystal habit come from Tsumeb mine in Namibia which is exactly where this beautiful example is from. It comes from the generations-old Weyand collection which was preserved for decades in Tsumeb. Best described as a 'floater' this superb 5.8 cm wide crystal grouping is off-matrix and as far as I can see totally free from damage, indicating that it was formed suspended, or floating, within clay in the oxidation zone at the mine. The crystallographic detail displayed on both sides of the specimen is exceptional, reflecting the complexity of growth as it formed, and its glossy, slightly greasy lustre is excellent.
