Tucson, Arizona, USAThis fantastic Dioptase miniature specimen is from the world's most famous mineralogical locality - Tsumeb mine in Namibia. Tsumeb is one of the most mineralogically diverse places on Earth but has also produced large and stunningly beautiful specimens, including the world's finest Dioptase specimens. On this specimen the largest individual Dioptase crystal reaches 1 cm in length but most are in the 5 to 7 mm range. However, it is the exceptionally gemmy nature of the crystals that makes this specimen such high quality. The crystals are largely joined in an extensive coverage over a white Calcite matrix, but all of the crystals are undamaged and display extremely fine crystal form. From one completely Dioptase covered side the detail continues around to a surface with small rhombic Calcite/Dolomite crystals with scattered large well-formed gemmy Dioptase crystals. This is an exceptionally high class Dioptase miniature. Ex Weyand collection.
