Dioptase on Calcite
Unknown Owner
As far as Tsumeb mine Dioptase specimens go this one is, to me at least, an extremely large coverage of well-formed glossy crystals for under $1000. Comprising a thin but rigid bed of Calcite matrix, almost its entire display surface (12 x 6 cm) is covered in well-formed, glossy, emerald-green rhombic-faced trigonal Dioptase crystals ranging in size from sub mm to 7 mm in length. Tsumeb might not be the Type Locality for this wonderfully attractive copper silicate but it is certainly the world's most famous occurrence. Ex Weyand collection, this is an absolute classic from this legendary mine.
