At 8 cm tall and 2.6 cm wide this is a quite substantial individual tourmaline crystal, or should I say "two crystals"? Detached from matrix and uniform in length with a perfectly smooth glassy flat pinacoid termination one might easily think that it is a single crystal, but it is its internal colour which provides a clue. One crystal is a consistent pale teal blue along its entire length, but the other adds a twist, with an identical teal blue termination and outer edge, but with a prominent, and very attractive raspberry-pink core. It is a very distinctive and eye-catching specimen, especially with good backlighting. It has very light chipping around the edges of its termination, but this does not detract from its obvious display potential. It is recorded simply as from Minas Gerais, a famous gem-producing state in Brazil, but is very similar to crystals from Coronel Murta.
