A classic, old-time and very showy Lane Quarry specimen featuring a large, glassy datolite crystal perched on prehnite. This is a very fine combination specimen from anywhere but should be considered among best of USA origin as it is from this famous Massachusetts trap rock quarry. The matrix is hosting and featuring a sharply formed, elegant, 4 cm, pale sea-green, gemmy and lustrous datolite crystal set on slightly contrasting, very pale green to off-white prehnite. The size of this datolite and crystal quality is exceptional for the Lane Quarry or anywhere for that matter! It is terminated on the top and not on the bottom and there is a small ding near the termination toward the rear that is hardly noticeable. There is even a 2 cm, partially complete sidecar crystal at the bottom of the large datolite at the backside at the bottom. The Prehnite matrix is vaguely botryoidal near the datolite crystal and is mostly granular massive except for the finely crystalline druse at the front and center of the piece that adds to the aesthetics of this attractive small cabinet piece. From the Dr. Richard Gaines collection and acquired 12/11/1999.
