Malachite ps. Azurite
Classic old Arizona material! Sharp, velvety crystals of malachite pseudomorphing azurite grace the top of this attractive piece from the classic find at the New Cornelia Mine from many years ago. It's a gorgeous small cabinet piece with two prominent clusters of crystals on a contrasting dark charcoal-gray, manganese oxide coating on an off-white igneous rock matrix. The cluster at the top edge has crystals from 0.5 to 1 cm and the one near the bottom has larger, more prominent crystals from 0.5 to 2 cm in size and both clusters are dramatically displayed on this significant piece from this find. The form of the original azurite crystals is well preserved with all of them having a blocky, equant form displaying diamond-shaped crystal faces. The piece was bought 3/18/2000 from August Dietz who purchased it from the R. Ashton collection.
