This is a classic and exceptional Bisbee botryoidal malachite from the Copper Queen Mine. Because of the older label, we know this is from the early 1900s period here. It's an impressive and attractive cabinet piece dominated by a large, three inch across, multi-lobed malachite botryoid in a partial cavity also lined aesthetically around the perimeter with smaller malachite mounds for an unusually 3-dimensional specimen. The malachite is a rich green and the periphery of the piece where it was pulled from the pocket has edges that show the radial divergent character of the malachite. Inspection of the bottom shows shows that it is a cast pulled off a crusty surface of dark brown goethite and is hollowed out and it also reveals a hole that goes through the piece. This is a very unusual, very large and very good example of this style of malachite from Bisbee that we rarely see. It's provenance is from Dr. Neal Luppescu, who acquired it from us here at The Arkenstone in 2005. We acquired from Dr. Eugene Sensel collection via George Elling, who owned it awhile. Sensel acquired from Shortmann's Minerals 1969.
