Bright, royal blue azurite crystals fill shallow depressions in this old-time piece from the Pontiac Mine in Virginia. This is a colorful, fist-sized piece that is laces with thin veinlets of malachite tracing through some white quartz veining and goethite-stained matrix with the highlight being the areas of glistening, vibrant blue azurite in elongate and irregular-shaped areas on the surface that show off and contrast nicely with the remainder of the rock. There must be a few to several dozen, 1 mm azurite crystals in each of the areas. Bought on 1/15/1995 from August Dietz who had purchased it from Richard Gillispie around 1980. A superb and rare location specimen!
