Magnetite with Rutile
This Magnetite is from a famous, and spectacularly situated hillside locality at Lärchultini in Valais, Switzerland. Here, a rich suite of minerals are associated with the paragneiss of the Monte Leone nappe, but it is its Magnetite which is particularly noted. This large miniature specimen features both perfect octahedral Magnetite crystals, but Rutile too as smaller crystals. The Magnetite crystals reach 7 mm across and present extremely well, with one perched dramatically for display at the top of the specimen. This crystal is about a perfect as one could get, displaying almost in 360 degrees and with an extremely glossy lustre. One of the other larger octahedral crystals has a broken crystal alongside, but this is classic material.
