The Chinese 'Iron Rose' Hematites from Jinlong Hill, Longchuan County, Heyuan Prefecture, Guangdong Province, China first came to the attention of mineral collectors in the early 2000s and drew considerable attention but have now almost disappeared from sight, hidden in collections. In reality, the Hematite crystals straddle both the varieties Specularite and Iron Rose, because they are rosettes composed of razor-sharp thin glossy black Specularite crystals. This exceptional specimen is a colossus, reaching 18 cm in length. It is certainly a statement piece and presents the classic association of frosted, long 'needle' Quartz crystals with very large rosettes of Hematite. A stunning Chinese classic.
