Gemmy, lustrous light purple fluorite crystals measuring to 3.8 cm are beautifully set on a contrasting matrix of white crystallized quartz from the Shangbao Mine, Hunan Province, China. The fluorite crystals display excellent transparency, sharp edges, and bright glassy luster, and the specimen is in great condition overall. Shangbao is well known among collectors for producing high quality fluorite in a range of colors, often associated with sparkling quartz from hydrothermal vein systems in this prolific Chinese mining district. The pleasing color contrast, strong crystal definition, and fine condition make this an attractive and classic example from one of China's important modern fluorite localities.
